50″ wingspan
Class: Scale flying model, 1:8 scale

Thousands of Taylorcraft light planes were manufactured between 1937-58. When WWII broke out many were used as trainers for the US Army under the designation L-2 Grasshoppers.

This kit is a 1:8 scale flying model. Not only is this a great rubber powered aircraft, this jumbo model is also very popular for conversion to electric or gas powered flight. Pre-1942 design, eligible for Society of Antique Modelers (SAM) contests. A superb flying model.

This free flight rubber powered kit contains a full-size rolled plan, hand picked printed balsa and balsa stripwood, 12″ EB propeller, EBM thrust bearing, FAI SuperSport rubber motor, clear plastic for the windows and windshield, wheels, landing gear wire, and Easy Built Lite yellow tissue. To build this model you will need a building board, hobby knife, fine sandpaper, and glue.

“Here are some pictures of my much modified Taylorcraft. The model has been converted to r/c power using an SC .12 and 3 channel r/c (rudder, elevator and throttle) using a Hitec 5 channel micro receiver and Tower Pro 5g servos. The model flies like a dream with 10 minute plus flights from a 2oz fuel tank. It will stooge around at half throttle like a trainer but is also capable of some mild aerobatics (loops, s inverted flight etc.) Some members of my flying club remarked on the lack of a pilot in the cockpit so I found ’Ozzy Osbourne’ in a local novelty shop, seems appropriate! I’m just about to start work on a similar conversion for your 50″ Hurricane but this one will also have aileron control and retracts.” – Mark Kaleda

“My wife gave me the Taylorcraft as a gift a couple years ago. I built it and converted it to electric RC with monocote covering. Modified to 6 channel electric with flaperons, rudder, elevator and rotating camera platform. First brushed motor with gear box which proved to have too little power. Upgraded to direct drive brushless 1300 with 50A ESC, external BEC. After 2 crashes, main wing rebuilt with basswood gussets and main spars. Airframe cockpit rebuilt with basswood 1/8″ stringers. Covered in olive drab monocote. Powered by 3S, 1800ma Turnigy Nanotech battery. I use an Eken Keychain digital camera, ridiculously small and light. You can find them on ebay for $6 – $8. It records to an SD card which was another $10 or $15. I just start the recording and put the wing on, then I edit it later. I put little velco swatches on all my birds so I can move it from plane to plane on flying days.” – Gary Coltharp
