50″ wingspan
Class: Scale flying model, 1:10 scale
Building Skill / Flying Skill: Experienced / Experienced

The Hurricane working with the Spitfire was responsible for the victory of the Battle of Britain. Introduced in 1935, it was a rugged and sturdy aircraft coupled with a Rolls-Royce Goshawk engine which allowed it to exceed 300 MPH.

This kit is a 1:10 scale flying model. Not only is this a great rubber powered aircraft, this jumbo model is also very popular for conversion to electric or gas powered flight. (Extra parts and materials required.)
Pre-1942 design, eligible for Society of Antique Modelers (SAM) contests.

This free flight rubber powered kit contains a full-size rolled plan, hand picked printed balsa and balsa strip wood, vacuum-molded canopy, spinner, air scoop, and exhaust pipes, wheels, landing gear wire, 12″ EB propeller, EBM thrust bearing, FAI SuperSport rubber motor, TissueCal™ markings, and Easy Built Lite tissue in light sky blue, evergreen, and olive. To build this model you will need a building board, hobby knife, fine sandpaper, and glue.

“I won the Easy Built kit on a model airplane event. The finished model is used free-floating and only with rubber motor drive. At present, 8 Sport Rubber 1/4″ threads and 11″ plastic propeller are used as propulsion systems. The 16″ wood propeller will only be used after completion of the test flights.” – Peter Ziegler, Switzerland

“Here are the pictures of the Hawker Hurricane I promised. I had the maiden flight on September 20th and then flew it again on September 27th. I have installed retracts with a servo for each unit. The plane is powered with a BP Hobbies 180 watt brushless motor on a 3 cell lipo. I have 5 servos in the plane and am using a brand new JR XP 6102 radio. I have covered the plane in black baron fabric and have decided on a night fighter version, just to be a little different. The plane takes off in less than 10 feet and flies great at half throttle. As a side note, the P-40 flies awesome. I have 10 flights on it to date and am enjoying it very much. My fleet is now up to 25 planes and I’m approaching 400 total flights for the year! Keep up the good work. My friend, Don Corning, has his Lysander also flying great. Your pal in Wisconsin, Gene Turk. P.S. The pilot’s name is Reggie.”

“Attached are a few pictures of my recently built hurricane, made using your 50″ wingspan kit. I converted it to electric power and four channel radio control. It flies very well in a very sedate fashion having large wing area and very low weight. Note that I increased the wing strength by adding three spars on the upper side of the wings. The weight of the model is exactly 18 oz. Motor is a Himax brushless model HA2015 Castle Creations reduction gear 4.5:1 ratio, Motor controller is Electifly SS-12 (Silver Series), Propeller – APC 11″ x 5.5”, Battery Electifly LiPo 2 cell BP 910 (910 mAh), Receiver – Spektrum AR500, Servos – 3 Hitec HS 81. – James Marsden

“Hi Dave & Ann, Hope you are both well. I would like to share a few pics of the 50” hurricane I got from you in the fall. I have a build thread on RCG here: My original plan was to build two versions. One almost per kit, very light. Then one with all the functions and more scale. I decided to do the latter. It has a lot more stringers, wing ribs went from 14 to 50 ribs. All sheeting 1/32. And of course the tail surfaces are laminated and built up. You’re welcome to use any pics. I will send more in the future. BTW, this is being modeled as the early MK-I Watts two blade prop version. Everybody ignores the early versions.” – Steve “Fuzz” St.Martin
